Some songs write themselves. "Grandma's" was one of those.
I was sitting on her porch in South Memphis, same spot I've been sitting since I was five years old. The smell of her cooking coming through the screen door, the sounds of the neighborhood, kids playing, somebody's radio down the street. And it hit me - this is everything. This is who I am.
My grandmother didn't just raise me. She taught me what it means to love unconditionally. She worked two jobs so I could have a chance. She prayed over me when I didn't even believe in myself.
Recording this track was emotional. I had to stop multiple times. But I wanted people to feel what I feel when I think about her, about that house, about where I come from.
Memphis is full of stories like this. Grandmothers holding families together. Houses that have seen generations. That's the Memphis people don't always see - the love, the resilience, the faith.
This one's for her. For everyone who had a grandmother like mine. For the houses that raised us.
